Vocabulary of Architecture

Do you find yourself describing the elements of buildings in terms of thing-a-ma-jigs and what-cha-ma-call-its?  Join us as John Doyle, member of the AHC Education Committee, helps demystify the language of architecture as it relates to buildings commonly found around the Portland area.

This updated program is ideal for anyone interested in architecture. After this session you’ll be able to impress your friends, family, co-workers, and contractors with your new-found knowledge of architectural terms such as gambrel, oculus, lintel, corbel, and quoin. From pilaster to pediment, there’s sure to be a little something for the architectural nerd in all of us!

This lecture program is held at the Architectural Heritage Center - 701 SE Grand Avenue

Parking is on-street (free on Saturdays) or in the parking lot on the west side of Grand Avenue between SE Yamhill and Belmont Streets - just to the north of the Grand Marketplace. Do not use the lot where Dutch Bros. Coffee is located.
